VP Bank's security standards

Encryption in data transmission
For data transmissions between you and VP Bank we use a 256 bit SSL encryption. This ranks as one of the highest security standards in data transmission today.
Certificate
A certificate is assigned to a particular organisation or person and establishes their identity. When you install our e-banking software you will receive a certificate issued for VP Bank. This gives you the reassurance that you are actually connected to one of our servers.
Digital signature
VP Bank e-banking is certified by a recognised body (SwissSign). This means you can be sure that the program truly is published by VP Bank. We recommend that, when installing the software, you verify the publisher of the downloaded file.
Secure log-in procedure
The VP Bank e-banking log-in procedure is based on three levels of user authentication. Users identify themselves by means of their username, their personal password and the token code or mobile token.

Privacy statement / data protection declaration

  • This data protection declaration pertains to the processing of data in conjunction with the use of VP Bank e-banking and e-banking mobile services/functions.

  • During said use, only the data transmitted by the user will be compiled by the Bank and applied exclusively for the utilisation/execution of the corresponding e-banking services/functions.

  • The use or forwarding of such data will be accomplished exclusively within the scope of currently valid (legal) precepts and thus in keeping with the applicable data protection provisions.

  • In principle, access data such as IP address, date and time of use, log files, etc., will not be passed on to third parties.

  • If use of the corresponding functions necessitates that data be forwarded to third parties (in particular, for purposes of payment transactions, securities trading, custodianship or the safekeeping of deposited items), such can take place if the user is in agreement with this data transfer or otherwise in instances when the disclosure of client data is required due to one of the constellations described in the General Conditions. Hence, legally prescribed disclosure obligations are upheld and the Bank reserves the right to do so.

  • The duration of the retention period for such data is in keeping with the legal requirements (according to necessity as dictated by data protection provisions or exceptional retention obligations/periods as per special norms).

  • Data protection law provides for the right to receive information on, to correct or to delete data. Enquiries in this regard can be addressed to the Data Protection Officer of VP Bank Ltd.

Rules of conduct

The security standards that VP Bank provides are among the highest available on the market. However, care and attention on your part also play a vital role in ensuring that your use of VP Bank e-banking and VP Bank e-banking mobile remains secure.

Social Engineering

The term "social engineering attack" denotes a situation in which the attacker makes contact and tries to exploit a person's helpfulness, credulity or uncertainty in order to obtain confidential information such as usernames, e-banking passwords or credit card information.

  • Be sceptical: no reputable company would simply contact you and ask for confidential information, such as your e-banking log-in details or your credit card number.
  • Don't give anyone you don't know access to your computer to carry out service and support work.
  • Always follow the other rules of conduct for dealing with passwords, e-mails, etc. You will find these rules on this website.
  • Attackers prey on the all-too-human curiosity, vanity, obedience or greed of the people they target. Don't let these things influence you.

E-Mails

  • Don't answer any e-mails in which you are asked to disclose confidential details (password, username, security token, etc.).  As a matter of principle VP Bank will never send you e-mails of that kind.
  • Ignore e-mails containing a link that you are supposed to use to start up e-banking, and please report such e-mails immediately to the e-banking hotline. VP Bank will never send unrequested e-mails containing a link for the purpose of starting up the VP Bank e-banking program.
  • Never open e-mails or attachments from unknown senders.
  • Don't place orders via e-mail. VP Bank does not execute orders placed via e-mail.
  • Never send confidential details such as your password, username, account numbers, etc. via e-mail.
  • Encrypt your e-mails to protect your sensitive data.
  • Delete spam or mass e-mails.

Password and VP Bank security token and/or VP Bank mobile token

  • Protect your security information (passwords, codes, etc.) against access by third parties. Don't write them down or save them on your computer. Choose a password that cannot be guessed. Use both capitals and lower case letters combined with numbers, but don't use names, dates of birth, street names, house numbers, etc.
  • Change your password regularly.
  • Never tell your password to anyone, not even the e-banking hotline or employees of VP Bank.
  • Never leave your token lying around unattended and don't write your log-in details or your password on it.

Start-up procedure

  • Always start up VP Bank e-banking locally on your PC, e.g. using the icon on your desktop.
  • Don't start up VP Bank e-banking from an Internet café.

Mobile devices

  • Protect your smartphone or tablet by using a PIN code: use the automatic block and code block on your smartphone or tablet (under "Settings") to prevent access by unauthorised persons.
  • Shut down VP Bank e-banking mobile (by answering "Yes" to the question: "Do you want to log out of VP Bank e-banking?").
  • Never answer any e-mail enquiry in which you are asked to enter your username and password.
  • VP Bank e-banking mobile will never save client-identifying information on your device or download personal information from your smartphone or tablet.

Further security precautions

  • Protect your data by using additional software components while you are connected to the Internet.
  • Don't install any software from unfamiliar sources.
  • Don't save any personal, sensitive data or your credit card details on untrustworthy websites.
  • Install anti-virus software to protect your computer from viruses, Trojans, etc. Keep your anti-virus software up to date by means of regular updates. The software providers make these updates available in the form of automatic downloads. An anti-virus software program must without fail include e-mail attachments in its scans.
  • You can also put a firewall in place to protect your computer from unauthorised access over the Internet. A firewall acts as a kind of "gatekeeper" for Internet connections, controlling the data traffic between your computer and the Internet. A separate rule must be defined for your connection with VP Bank e-banking.
  • Now and again, security loopholes will be identified in the operating systems. Such loopholes may pose a threat to your computer. Update your system regularly with operating system updates from the manufacturer's website.
